The Mianis live in Virginia, where Dan is a vice principal and teacher, and Courtney is a veterinarian. After Evie and Nolan were born, Dan and Courtney began to pursue a lifelong dream to adopt special needs children.
Paul, born deaf, lived most of his life in a large orphanage. James, born with a cleft lip and palate, underwent corrective surgery and faces still more. In 2015 at the ages of 8 and 2, respectively, they were adopted by the Mianis, who were supported throughout by family, friends, and Courtney's parents.
